Iaroslav the Wise

Iaroslav ruled from 1016-1054. He was most known for prosperity and fighting with his family. Iaroslav faught a war against his half brother to get control over Kiev. (The capital of Ukraine) He managed to unite Kiev and a city in Russia called Novgorod. Durring his rule there were lots of advancements. For example the city of Yaroslavl was founded, work was started on the St. Sophia Cathedral, and Russia's first code of laws called Russkaya Pravda (meaning Russian truth) came into being. Part of the political and cultural rise had to do with the marriage alliences that Iaroslav made with his children. He married three of his daughters to exiled princes. But there was some trouble after Iaroslav passed away. He had chosen to divide up his kingdom so civil war broke out.
